Local to Aurora

We know your neighborhood and your trees

Aurora has a more varied tree canopy than most York Region towns — mature ash, oak, and maple in the older Yonge corridor; younger landscape plantings in newer subdivisions. Different removal challenges in each.

  • Bayview Northeast. Mature oak, maple, and Norway maple canopy. Heavy verticillium-wilt removals 2023-2025.
  • Hills of St Andrew. Larger lots; common requests are mature white pine and black spruce removals for view restoration.
  • Aurora Village (Yonge/Wellington). Historic streetscape with town-protected trees. Permit handling matters more here than in newer subdivisions.
  • Stone Road / Mavrinac. Newer build areas with smaller ornamentals; common work is initial structural pruning and clearance from new construction.
  • Yonge North toward Aurora Heights. Established ash population mostly removed post-EAB; now seeing oak and basswood end-of-life work.

Aurora tree-removal bylaw

Permits handled, not punted

The Town of Aurora's Private Tree Bylaw (Bylaw 6362-21, in effect since 2021) requires a permit for the removal of most healthy trees over 20 cm DBH (diameter at breast height) on private property. There are exceptions for dead, dying, or hazardous trees, and for certain non-native species.

We handle the permit submission as part of the quote. You don't fill any Town forms; you don't pay separate permit fees on top of the quoted price. If a tree qualifies for a "no permit needed" exception, we document that too, so you have a record.

Frequently asked

Aurora tree removal questions, answered

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Aurora?

In most cases, yes. The Town of Aurora's Private Tree Bylaw (6362-21) requires a permit for removing healthy trees 20 cm DBH or larger on private property. Dead, dying, and hazardous trees are exempt — but you still want documentation. We handle the permit submission and the documentation as part of every quote.

How much does tree removal cost in Aurora?

Most residential tree removals in Aurora run $800-$3,500. A small ornamental in an open yard is at the low end; a mature oak overhanging a roof with a hydro line nearby is at the high end. Stump grinding is $150-$600 separately. We give you a written, itemized quote — no on-site sales pressure.

How fast can you respond to an emergency?

If a tree is on a structure, vehicle, or power line, call us right away — we route emergency calls to the partner crew with the earliest opening. Same-day response is the goal during business hours; weekends and after-hours, expect a 12-hour callback. For power-line contact, call your hydro provider (Alectra in Aurora) and then us.

Are you actually a tree removal company or a referral service?

We're a locally-operated platform. Aurora Tree Removal is the brand and the front door; the actual work is done by a small vetted set of ISA-certified arborist partners with current Certificates of Insurance and WSIB clearance. Every job we quote includes the credentials of the crew that will perform it.

What does "fully insured" actually mean?

Every partner crew carries minimum CAD $2 million general liability insurance and current Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) coverage. We verify this every six months. If a partner's coverage lapses, they're off the roster until it's reinstated. You can request to see the Certificate of Insurance before any work begins.

What if there is a hydro line near the tree?

Trees within 3 metres of an energized line require a special procedure and may require Alectra to de-energize the line during the work. We coordinate this directly with Alectra at no additional cost to you. The quote reflects the added scheduling complexity, not a hydro-coordination fee.

Will my lawn be a mess after?

No. Standard scope includes wood-chip cleanup, hauling away cut wood (unless you want it kept), and raking the work area. You can request that wood be kept for firewood or chipped on-site. Lawn ruts from heavy equipment are rare on dry conditions; if they happen, the crew restores the lawn before leaving.
